Preamble - basic consensus (english)

PREAMBLE


The Trekking board belongs to me, Mag. Andreas Pflügler, Kitzbühel, Austria (see also imprint). I work as a freelance geologist in my hometown. Internet and walking (or trekking) are hobbies, that I was able to combine with this board.

I had the idea for this board in 2001. It began small with only few users and using the freely available forum software YaBB. With increasing frequency and quickly growing content I had to find professional board software. I decided on the commercial vBulletin, which I installed in 2004 and that has grown to be a powerful tool after numerous extensions and updates.

As I've always been an enthusiastic traveller and trekker, it's my intetion to build up a platform for exchanging information, hints and assistance with like-minded people. Everyone is welcome, as long as they respect our Netiquette and the forum rules.

The forum reflects my own life, social and global attitude in its purpose and self-conception. I see myself as a liberal, world-open and curious human. I love to discover things that are new to me, whether in native mountains, in the jungles of Malaysia or in the heights of the Himalayas. Historical and everyday culture embedded in a great landscape and in harmony with their natural environment fascinates me the most. My travel slogan of many years reads "There's such a lot of world to see - let's go!"

I abhor force, right extremist ideas and arrogance towards foreign cultures. I despise “travellers”, who consider visited country, its humans and its (exotic) culture as self-service shop to satisfy their own craving for sensation.

I would like these attitudes of mine to be understood as the basic consensus of the board as well.
